Junkie's Bank Account - Matt Lowen

Matt Lowen’s music rises above the noise of a marketplace filled with TV show contest winners masquerading as recording artists. And with “Junkie’s Bank Account”, he has just turned in a slice of true-life Americana that deserves a place in your music collection.

The mix is marvelous, with plenty of room for the well-placed instruments to live, breathe and spread out. The album has an intimate, uncluttered feel that appropriately frames the songs in a way that allows the subject matter to be conveyed in an almost conversational manner.

“Junkie’s Bank Account” is filled with many highlights that include, the languid down tempo beat of “The King Of Good Intentions”, the tender slip and slide hooks of “Big Blue World” and the swampy rhythm of the title track, “Junkie’s Bank Account”.

Matt Lowen particularly excels when he turns the tempo right down, and takes his storytelling vocal timbre into Johnny Cash territory. Music and voice blend to deliver heart rendering compositions that truly convince the listener.

Stuck in an era of electronic music, Matt Lowen’s “Junkie’s Bank Account” is like a breath of fresh air after a hard day’s work in a claustrophobic coal mine.

Highly recommended.
